``Castle`` settlement
Undoubtedly during your visit to the island of Thassos you should spend a few hours to visit the village of Kastro. It is located at an altitude of 500 meters and took its name from the ruins of an old castle that was located in the area. Both its geographical location and its altitude make the village invisible from the altitude of the sea. This is the most important reason why the village was not attacked by pirate raids.
The wild stone of the area, the morphology of the soil and the vegetation of the forest in the area are a unique landscape on the island. Access is by road from Limenaria and it is worth visiting the village from the area of Maria or Theologos by electric bicycle as on the route there are 2 waterfalls which you can visit. The village no longer has permanent residents but there is a tavern where you can have your lunch or dinner.
